A Study of an Online Reading Intervention for Secondary ELLs

Individualize Instruction
ESL ReadingSmart individualizes instruction. A built-in placement test
creates an individualized learning path for each student. Alternatively,
teachers can select the starting level for each of their classes. ESL ReadingSmart
provides a Newcomers' Program and a multi-genre, multicultural Reading Program written
on four proficiency levels: Beginner (Level 1), Intermediate (Level 2), Early Advanced
(Level3), and Advanced (Level 4). As ESL ReadingSmart is an online intervention,
it may be accessed by teachers and students from any location with an Internet connection,
24 hours a day, seven days a week.
ESL ReadingSmart tracks student progress. The Student Assessment section
of ESL ReadingSmart offers teachers and administrators the capability of running
daily, weekly and progress student reports. These reports summarize students’ work
online and include their scores on activities and quizzes. Teachers can see students
performance at their assigned level as well as their readability and grade level
gains based on
The Lexile Framework for Reading®.
